Other Information : This is on a small road about a mile and a half south-west of Kilclief Castle and Parish Church in the townland of Ballywoodan and parish of Kilclief There is a tablet on the north wall of the church, facing the gate, with the inscription 'I H S This chapel was built A D 1785, the then presiding Priest Revd John Fitzsimmons whose remains are interred in the rear of this house God have mercy on his soul' The baptismal register of Kilclief and Strangford dates from 1866 and the marriage register from 1865 The old church became unsafe and was abandoned in 1970-1 when a new one was built alongside The old part of the graveyard is round the old church and the oldest stones, going back to 1807, are all readable The graveyard was in fact not consecrated until 1807 or 1808 (O'Laverty) All with dates before 1865 were copied in 1967 including one memorial tablet in the church This part was cleared and levelled in 1969-70 and most of the stones moved to the east and south walls However, in the process 16 of the stones, which had been previously copied, were lost.
