Other Information : This is an isolated grave on a farm in the townland of Ballygowan, two miles north east of Ballynure According to his desire Mr Knox was buried on his own farm two field lengths from the house The simple sandstone memorial is in a railed enclosure planted with laurels and of sufficient size to accommodate his large, but absent, family; In the front garden of the farmhouse and at the base of a shed gable is the inscription 'James Knox 1778', said to commemorate the arrival of the family at this farm Higher on the wall a painted face, cast in plaster, survived until about 1978 This was identified as James Knox who was a brother of Joseph and who emigrated to America in 1840 eventually settling near Hebron, Nebraska Eaves protected the plaster cast from the weather and the 'shrine' was completed by a shelf which could carry vases of flowers.
