Other Information : This lies in the North-East Division and on the west side of Victoria Road Before 1978 a wrought iron archway over the entrance gate held a cast iron plaque giving the information, 'Opened 10th Decr 1904 Presented to Carrickfergus by Hugh G Legg Esq , Cape Town, in memory of his father and mother, residents of this town ' McCrum (p 135) tells us the Urban District Council of Carrickfergus, acting as a burial board, provided the cemetery at a cost of 2,500 On 19th July 1904 the U D C presented Mr and Mrs H G Legg with an illuminated address recognising their gift of 1,000 towards the new cemetery There is only one stone with a date of death before 1900 It is attached to the east perimeter wall and is of sandstone carved in a style typical of the early nineteenth century, so may have been moved from another site .
